MANHEIM – JB Hoops Callahan started fast Saturday afternoon to finish strong in the Hoop Group Spring Jam.
Seth Maxwell led an early 11-point streak that sent JB Hoops on its way to a 65-50 victory over BSA Select.
The win over the team from Coraopolis near Pittsburgh allowed JB Hoops to finish 3-1 on the weekend at Spooky Nook Sports in the 17U Platinum Bracket.
BSA Select scored the game’s first five points, but it was just 1:20 into the game when Brian Boland’s pass beat the press and set up Maxwell’s dunk to start the 11-point streak.
Maxwell powered inside for another basket during the streak, which he then capped on a three-point play off a reverse layup in transition.
JB Hoops never lost the lead it gained in the 11-point streak, which included four points by Leo O’Boyle and another assist by Boland to set up a layup.
The lead grew to 33-23 at halftime with Maxwell scoring nine of his 13 points.
O’Boyle and Trey Koehler finished with 10 points each.
Dimitri Gnall added eight points, all in the second half.
Maxwell, a 7-foot center, is the only senior on the team. He remains eligible for AAU basketball because he plays to play at a prep school, The Hill School from Pottstown, next season. Maxwell averaged a team-leading 14.3 points per game for the weekend.
