MANHEIM – NEPA Flames Reno won Saturday night and Sunday morning to finish strong after suffering its only loss at the Blue Chip Pre-Season Challenge, presented by Under Armour, Saturday afternoon.
The Flames, a high school team from Backcourt Hoops in Scranton, beat DM Panthers Brown, 41-39, Sunday morning to finish 4-1, the second-best record in the 17U Pool DD of the three-day event at Spooky Nook Sports.
Triple Threat Institute defeated the Flames, 43-34, and went 5-0 to lead the eight-team pool.
The Flames then topped the BRYC Tarheels, 58-48.
Olivia Gregory hit three 3-pointers in the game and scored eight of her team-high 11 points in the second half of Sunday’s win.
Britney Charles added nine points and Mia Rudalavage had eight.
Charles and Sydney Newhart each scored 11 points for the Flames in the only loss.
Erika Freeley and Mia Rudalavage had big first halves to key the win over the Tarheels.
Freeley had 13 of her 16 points and three of her four 3-pointers in the first half.
Rudalavage hit a pair of 3-pointers while scoring 11 of her 15 in the half.
The Flames finished the game with eight 3-pointers after Olivia Gregory and Jadyn Swartout each made one in the second half.
