WILKES-BARRE – Four JB Hoops graduates took part in the girls game to open the doubleheader at the 48th annual Dr. George P. Moses Wyoming Valley Conference Senior Basketball All-Star Classic Friday night at Holy Redeemer High School.
Taryn Ashby from Pittston Area was part of the winning Team Healey, which defeated Team Ferenchik/Lojewski, 76-71.
The Maroon team coached by Pittston Area’s Kathy Healey played the White team coached by Wyoming Valley West’s Gary Ferenchick and Wyoming Area’s Chad Lojewski.
Ashby finished with two points, five rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot. She was part of the Maroon starting lineup.
Gabby Smicherko and Natalie Gruver also played for their high school coach in the game. The two Wyoming Valley West seniors were on the White team along with Nanticoke’s Riley Klepadlo.
Smicherko started for the White. She had four points and two assists.
Gruver grabbed three rebounds, made a steal and blocked a shot.
Klepadlo made a 3-pointer in the first quarter for her only points, helping the White to a 21-10 lead. She also had two rebounds and an assist.
When WVC coaches named their all-star teams at the end of the regular season, Klepadlo was named co-Player of the Year in Division 2 after helping her team to the division championship.
Smicherko, whose team also won a division title, and Ashby were each first-team, all-star choices in Division 1.
