Scranton Prep and JB Hoops alum Matt Knowles wrapped up his college career with an outstanding season for the Ursinus College men’s basketball team.
Knowles became the first Bear in five seasons to earn first-team, all-Centennial Conference. He was also named to the Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Team.
Despite missing nearly half of his junior season, Knowles wrapped up his career with 939 points by finishing third in the conference in scoring this season at 16.6 points per game.
Knowles led the Centennial Conference in free throws made (103) during the 2016-17 season while ranking third in field goals, fourth in 3-pointers and fourth in free throw percentage. In addition to the 16.6 points, he averaged 2.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and a team-high 1.2 steals while starting in every game for the 15-12 Bears. The 6-foot-2 guard shot 43.0 percent from the floor, 37.1 from 3-point range and 81.1 from the line.
In his final game, Knowles scored 22 points in an 88-66 Centennial Conference semifinal loss to Swarthmore. It was the 10th time on the season that he scored 20 or more points.
