JB Hoops Callahan wrapped up a successful summer season last week with a Final Four appearance in the highest division of competition in the Live in AC tournament in Atlantic City.
The team took a break after its spring season, then returned for three events in July. JB Hoops Callahan made the championship game of the Hoop Group AC Jam Fest, opened with two straight wins in the Hoop Group Summer Jam Fest at Spooky Nook in Lancaster, then reaching the semifinals in the return visit to Atlantic City July 25-27.
“They had a great summer,” coach Bill Callahan said. “We played some top-flight competition and we were in all our games.”
George Tinsley had 54 points in a pair of wins Thursday, the second day of the event, getting JB Hoops started for three straight wins in bracket play.
JB Hoops lost, 56-40, to the L & L Running Rebels in the showcase opener Wednesday night. The game did not impact the tournament that followed.
“Thank God that didn’t make a difference,” Callahan said. “After that, we started playing like we had earlier in the season.”
Tinsley led the Thursday ways, 65-48 over B-All-In from New Jersey and 56-53 over PTT Blue from Connecticut, in the event at Stockton State.
“George and Leo (O’Boyle) did their usual, leading us in scoring,” Callahan said. “And, we got help elsewhere.”
Blake Gearhart and Jeremy Callahan gave the team an offensive spark in the quarterfinals, helping JB Hoops Callahan defeat the New Jersey Roadrunners, 64-47.
Coach Callahan credited Corey Perkins with playing well defensively throughout the last event.
Dimitri Gnall provided a strong rebounding effort.
JB Hoops Callahan made the Final Four of the 32-team Atlantic Division for the top teams out of 72 that entered the 17U part of the event.
