Callahan reaches state golf tournament

JB Hoops basketball player Jeremy Callahan continues to excel in his other high school sport.

The junior from Wyoming Seminary qualified for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Individual Golf Championships with his play Monday at Golden Oaks Golf Club in Fleetwood.

Callahan qualified for the state tournament by shooting 5-over-par, 77 and tying for fifth place in Class 2A at the PIAA East Regional.

The top 14 players in the 28-player field moved on to the state championships, which are scheduled for Oct. 22-23 at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York.

Callahan had reached the East Regional by finishing tied for second in District 2 with a 77 at Elmhurst Country Club.

On the basketball court, Callahan was selected by coaches as the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 3 Player of the Year as a freshman. He helped the Blue Knights win the division title as a sophomore, earning first-team division all-star honors from as well as the division’s coaches.
