ALUMNI REPORT: O’Boyles enjoy special day on football field

Saturday turned into a big day on the football field for two brothers who are products of the JB Hoops AAU basketball program.

John O’Boyle was one of 20 seniors honored at the University of Miami prior to its final home game, a 24-3 victory over the University of Pittsburgh.

Leo O’Boyle quarterbacked Scranton Prep into the state Class 3A semifinals with a 45-7 rout of Montoursville.

John, a Scranton Prep graduate, is a graduate student at Miami after spending four years at Fordham University. The 6-foot-2, 252-pound defensive lineman had one year of eligibility left and used it at Miami.

Leo, a Lafayette College commit in basketball, is having the start of his senior basketball season in high school delayed by success on the football field.

The latest win came at Dunmore Saturday in a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 3A quarterfinal.

Leo, a 6-foot-8 quarterback, came out firing. He hit his first eight passes and went 9-for-11 for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns in the first half. By the time the game ended, he went beyond the 2,000-yard mark for the season and had thrown another touchdown pass, his third of the day and 31st of the season.
