JB Hoops alum and Abington Heights graduate Evan Maxwell matched his scoring high, surpassed a career milestone and hit a game-winning, 3-pointer at the buzzer, all in the same Indiana Wesleyan game Saturday afternoon.
The 6-foot-10 senior forward scored 39 points, including his 1,000th at the NAIA Division II school, in an 89-86 victory over Marian University.
When the game ended, Maxwell was swarmed near midcourt after hitting a long 3-pointer from high on the left side.
“We have had some unbelievable finishes in this building,” Indiana Wesleyan coach Jeff Tonagel said. “ … Add this to the collective list of great finishes and great shots.”
Maxwell’s shot decided the game between nationally ranked teams. He finished 15-for-22 from the field, including 5-for-8 on 3-point shots.
In 60 games over two seasons for the defending national champions, Maxwell averages 16.8 points. He has 1,409 career college points, including the start of his career at NCAA Division I Liberty.
Indiana Wesleyan, which is 8-2 in the Crossroads Conference and 19-3 overall, is on an eight-game winning streak.
