Williams College stormed through the first two rounds of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III men’s basketball tournament and right into an extremely challenging matchup in Friday’s Round of 16.
JB Hoops alum Bobby Casey, a senior guard from Scranton Prep, leads the Ephs into a game against second-ranked Whitman College at 5:30 at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y.
Williams is 22-6 after winning twice at home, beating Husson and Gwynedd-Mercy by a total of 60 points, in the first two rounds of the tournament last weekend.
Whitman brings a 28-1 record into its fourth straight Sweet 16 appearance. The Blues average 104 points per game and have made 335 3-pointers this season while leading the nation with an average victory margin of 23.2.
Casey had 16 points in an 86-60 victory over Husson and 21 more in a 90-56 victory over Gwynedd-Mercy last weekend.
Against Husson, Casey was 7-for-14 from the floor and had four rebounds, four assists and four steals.
In the Gwynedd-Mercy game, Casey was 6-for-9 from the floor, 4-for-7 on 3-pointers and 5-for-6 from the foul line. He also grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists in his game at Chandler Gymnasium.
Casey, a first-team New England Small College Athletic Conference all-star, leads the Ephs with 18.5 points and 4.4 assists per game. He also contributes 5.2 rebounds.
The Williams-Whitman winner plays either Christopher Newport (27-3) or Hamilton (25-4) in Saturday’s 7 p.m. game for a berth in the Final Four.
