Ryan Bednarz broke loose for 35 points Saturday night while leading JB Hoops Brunner to a 73-61 win over Miami Triple Threat in a 16U Elite Division game in the Hoop Group Summer Jam Fest at Spooky Nook in Manheim, Lancaster County.
Bednarz led the way as JB Hoops shot well over 50 percent and put together an extended run of dominance in the first half of its only win in three tries at the tournament.
The rising junior guard from Scranton Prep also had a pair of steals.
Austin Finarelli from Dallas helped set up the big scoring game by Bednarz with nine assists to go along with six points and five rebounds.
The top two JB Hoops scorers were Scranton Prep players. Andrew Ferguson added 11 points.
Austin O’Connor from Mid Valley added four assists.
Miami broke in front 18-8 less than four minutes into the game.
JB Hoops took over from there with a 26-3 run to a 34-21 advantage and kept the lead in double figures the entire second half.
Ferguson tied the game with three free throws after being fouled on a 3-point attempt, then put JB Hoops ahead by following that with a 3-pointer for a 24-21 lead.
Finarelli also had a personal six-point streak, all in transition, as part of 18 straight points to cap the JB Hoops run.
Bednarz took it from there. He scored the last six JB Hoops points of the first half for a 40-28 lead, then had six of the team’s first eight points in the second half.
The 22-point second half by Bednarz included scoring 14 of the last 16 JB Hoops points to turn away any Triple Threat comeback hopes.
