MANHEIM – The JB Hoops Bucci offense picked apart the host Spooky Nook Lady Raiders on the way to a 41-35 victory Sunday in the Blue Chip USA Invitational.
JB Hoops got a dozen of its baskets from close range, including five times when teammates found cutters moving through the lane for easy layups.
When JB Hoops needed to score from outside, Lauren Charlton was there.
Charlton had three of the team’s four 3-pointers. She finished with a team-high 13 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and a blocked shot despite leaving with an injury with 4:06 remaining.
Rachael Rose had eight points and five rebounds.
Lindsey Welsh and Cecelia Collins each had six rebounds to lead JB Hoops to a 36-20 advantage on the boards.
Nya Johnson chipped in with six points, three offensive rebounds and two steals.
Spooky Nook took a 4-0 lead and coach John Bucci called a timeout after JB Hoops turned the ball over on its first three possessions.
Charlton hit a 3-pointer to start the scoring and had five points to give JB Hoops a 7-6 lead.
Leah Hodick sent a pass across the lane to Rose for a 9-8 lead with 11:03 left in the half and JB Hoops never trailed again.
Spooky Nook tied the game for the last time, 20-20.
Johnson then led JB Hoops to the last six points of the half for a 26-20 lead. She scored on a low post move and by cutting to get free for a Taylor Huyck pass, then made a steal that led to a putback by Collins.
Charlton converted rebounds into five straight points for a 35-27 lead with 10:26 left and Spooky Nook did not get closer than five the rest of the way.
