JB Hoops girls show off offense

The JB Hoops National girls team has had the stingiest defensive performance in its pool in all three live events this season.

For openers at the Nike Tournament of Champions Wednesday in Chicago, JB Hoops showed off its offense, particularly its 3-point shooting ability.

Lauren Charlton led the way as JB Hoops hit five 3-pointers during a 30-point first half on the way to a 54-39 victory over Bucky’s Northwest Basketball Academy Gold.

Charlton, who missed the last two-plus games of the Blue Chip USA Invitational Sunday and Monday with a minor injury, showed she was ready for the start of the Tournament of Champions.

The rising senior from Dallas came out firing with 10 of her team-high 14 points in the first half to help JB Hoops to a seven-point lead at the break.

Charlton hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first half. Rachael Rose, Nya Johnson and Cecelia Collins each hit a 3-pointer while scoring five points in the first half.

Rose, who added the team’s only second-half 3-pointer, and Johnson finished with 10 points each.

JB Hoops is playing in Pool A of the Prague Division.

After beating the team from Shoreline, Wash. today, JB Hoops is back on the court tonight against Chicago Hoops Express.

Chicago was also impressive in its opener, defeating Cal Stars Valley 17 Select, 53-36. MCW Starz 2020/2021 Kia defeated Jersey Cardinals 2020, 37-33, in the other Pool A game.

The schedule calls for two games Thursday and one Friday morning to determine the Pool A champion, which will play the Pool B champion for the Prague title.
