JB Hoops teams begin nationals with wins

OXON HILL, Md. – Both JB Hoops National girls teams posted victories Saturday night to begin play in the USJN 17U Nationals at the Gaylord National Convention Center at the National Harbor.

The wins came about by much different methods.

Both teams began at the same time on different floors at the convention center, but JB Hoops Rose blew the game open early in a 63-37 rout of the Winston-Salem Stealers 16 Role.

The running clock throughout the second half gave the JB Hoops Rose team time to get to the JB Hoops Bucci game in time to see a comeback.

JB Hoops Bucci scored the game’s last eight points to pull out a 49-45 victory over the Mass Frenzy.

Rachel McDonald began the JB Hoops Rose game with consecutive 3-pointers. She did all of her scoring from behind the arc with a game-high 15 points, including 12 in the first half while helping her team to a 34-13 runaway.

JB Hoops Rose made six 3-pointers in the first half and nine in the game.

Clair Dougherty added 11 points in the win and Maria Belardi had 9.

Lead Hodick had 11 points and 8 rebounds to lead JB Hoops Bucci in its victory.

JB Hoops Bucci was just 2-for-18 on 3-pointers in the second half before Lauren Charlton hit one with 1:15 left to begin the game-ending streak.

Moriah Murray’s three-point play put JB Hoops Bucci ahead and Nya Johnson added a late basket.

Lindsey Welsh, who also had five assists and five steals, and Charlton scored eight points each.

Rachael Rose dished out eight assists and made four steals.

Both JB Hoops teams have two games scheduled for Monday.
