Two JB Hoops alums were in the starting lineup and another saw significant action Friday night when the Misericordia University women’s basketball team opened its season with a 93-41 rout at Valley Forge University.
Gianna Delfino joined Erica Haefele as starters and joined Haefele’s sister, Morgan Haefele, in making their collegiate debuts in the game.
Delfino grabbed 10 rebounds, second-best on the team.
The 5-foot-11 freshman guard/forward from Dunmore also had six points, three assists, a blocked shot and a steal. Delfino was 3-for-8 from the floor, including two misses from 3-point range, while playing 25 minutes.
The Haefele sisters are 5-4 guards from Mid Valley.
Erica Haefele made her 14th career start and finished with six points, two assists and a rebound in 24 minutes. She was 2-for-6 on 3-pointers and missed one other shot.
Last season, Erica Haefele averaged 5.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists while appearing in every game for the Cougars, who went 23-6 and were nationally ranked for part or the season.
Morgan Haefele had two points, two assists and a steal in 16 minutes. She missed both attempts from the field and made both free throws.
Misericordia plays again Saturday afternoon at Gwynedd Mercy.
