WILKES-BARRE – JB Hoops alumni Gracie Guarino and Bethany Maby scored their first college points during the weekend while playing for the Marywood University women’s basketball team in the Cross County Challenge at King’s College
Guarino, a 5-foot-5 freshman guard from Western Wayne playing in her fourth game, had five points in the first half of Saturday’s 65-58 victory over Wilkes University. She hit a 3-pointer before the halftime buzzer for a 37-26 halftime lead. Her first points had come on a basket in the paint three minutes earlier.
Maby made her debut Sunday during a 93-57 loss to King’s. She played the final 3:02, grabbing one rebound on each end of the floor and turning her offensive rebound into two free throws. She converted both.
Guarino saw her most playing time to date against Wilkes and grabbed four rebounds in 13:58. She has played a total of 31 minutes while appearing in five of six games. She has five points and six rebounds while shooting 2-for-4 and making her only 3-point try.
Marywood, which plays at nationally ranked University of Scranton Tuesday night, is 2-4.
