The West Scranton senior agreed to a partial athletic scholarship from Bloomsburg, a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference member and National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II school.
Johnson said she first heard from Bloomsburg University while playing for the JB Hoops Bucci team during a 27-2 season in which the team finished first or second in every live event in entered.
“I didn’t really know much about them or even know they had an interest in me until they reached out to coach (John) Bucci,” Johnson said. “I started to do some research and then I said, ‘oh, I want to visit this school’.”
Johnson made both an official and unofficial visit to Bloomsburg, one of three PSAC schools that was showing interest, but the first to come forward with a formal offer. She also made unofficial visits to Millersville and East Stroudsburg.
She liked what she saw at Bloomsburg where she plans to study for the athletic training field.
“When I went there, it just felt like home,” Johnson said. “It felt like I belonged there.”
Johnson, who showed she could play any position on the floor while with JB Hoops, projects to likely play guard in college.
