Maddie Martin scored a career-high 19 points and gave New Jersey Institute of Technology a late lead Tuesday night before the winless Highlanders fell, 61-59, at Wagner University on a basket in the final second.
The JB Hoops alum more than doubled her previous scoring high with 19 points. She also reached a new high for assists with seven and matched her best rebounding game with five.
The 5-foot-7 redshirt freshman point guard from Dunmore was 7-for-8 from the line. She made four straight free throws for a 59-56 lead with 1:11 left.
Martin played 36 minutes. She went 5-for-12 from the floor, 2-for-5 from 3-point range and 7-for-8 from the free throw line. She had a steal and a blocked shot.
Through six games, Martin is averaging 6.8 points, 3.8 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals while shooting 41.7 percent from 3-point range.
