Sheehan makes all-tournament team

JB Hoops alum Emily Sheehan opened her senior season at the University of Scranton by making the all-tournament team for her role in the nationally ranked Lady Royals winning the championship of the Gwynedd Mercy Tip-Off Tournament.

Sheehan battled through foul trouble to score 19 points, including 17 in the second half, of Friday’s 75-64 win over Ursinus.

The guard from Dunmore added 13 more points in Saturday’s 91-74 championship game win over host Gwynedd Mercy.

Opening night represented the highest-scoring game for Sheehan since her freshman season. The reigning Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Year went 3-for-6 from 3-point range and also had four assists.

Sheehan had 12 points in the third quarter, then five more in a 16-4 run that allowed the Lady Royals to pull away after leading just 51-50 in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter.

Against Gwynedd Mercy, Sheehan was 4-for-7 from the floor, 2-for-3 on 3-pointers and 3-for-6 from the line. She also grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists.

The Lady Royals, a national semifinalist last season, opened the season ranked third among National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III teams by D3Hoops.com and ranked fifth by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
