When the Binghamton University sports information department put together a season preview of the men’s basketball team, following a consultation with coach Tommy Dempsey, it came up with this description of freshman George Tinsley: “versatile 6-foot-6 athlete who will eat up minutes and be an up-and-down the floor contributor.”
Nobody in the country is eating up more minutes.
When the National Collegiate Athletic Association compiled its latest statistics Dec. 8, on Tinsley’s 19th birthday, it was determined that the JB Hoops alum’s 39.2 minutes played per game were the most in the country.
Tinsley jumped from third to first among NCAA Division I men after playing all 45 minutes in Saturday’s overtime win over Boston University.
It was the fifth time this season that Tinsley played every minute.
The 6-foot-6 freshman forward from Abington Heights is averaging 11.9 points and 9.0 rebounds. He has four double-doubles this season, also ranking among the most in the nation in that category.
