JB Hoops alum Taylor Huyck had a busy February with the Susquehanna girls basketball team.
Huyck began the month by committing to play National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III women’s basketball at Elizabethtown College.
Before the month ended, Huyck helped the Lady Sabers win their fourth straight District 2 Class A title, their third straight Lackawanna League Division 4 championship and qualify for the third state tournament appearance of her career.
During the district championship victory Thursday, Huyck also became the school’s all-time career scoring leader.
The 5-foot-9 senior guard, who was a third-team all-state selection by sports writers last season, averages more than 15 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists per game.
During Huyck’s career, Susquehanna went 45-3 in Division 4. The Lady Sabers reached an all-season championship game before losing in her freshman season.
Susquehanna, which reached the state quarterfinals last season, opens the state tournament Saturday in Oxford, Pa. against Chester Charter.
Huyck had 18 points in a 49-28 district championship game victory over MMI Prep. She has 1,471 career points.
Elizabethtown has won two national titles and made four national championship game appearances. It won more women’s basketball games than any college during the 20th century.
“I really liked the campus, the education, the team, the coach,” said Huyck, who plans to study biology. “I like everything about it.”
