JB Hoops alum Seth Maxwell received multiple individual honors and contributed to team success during the 2019-20 season as a sophomore at Indiana Wesleyan University.
The Abington Heights graduate was named Crossroads League Defensive Player of the Year and first-team all-star. He earned third-team All-American honors, making him the highest-ranking underclassmen in Division II of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Indiana Wesleyan went 29-4, won the league title and was prepared to start the 32-team national tournament in Sioux Falls, S.D. as the second-ranked team. The tournament, along with most sporting events in the country, was canceled as part of efforts to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
Maxwell scored 24 points in a 109-77 victory over Bethel (Ind.) in the league championship game.
The 7-foot sophomore center led the league with 87 blocked shots, 28 more than anyone else in the Crossroads. He was the team’s second-leading scorer at 17 points per game and also averaged 7.1 rebounds while starting all but one game.
Evan Maxwell, Seth’s older brother, played on the 2018 national championship team. They were teammates last season.
