Winning debut for 14U boys

The latest NEPA Elite team to take the court, the 14U boys team, got off to a successful start by winning its first two games Saturday morning in the Pennsylvania Jam Fest at East Stroudsburg University.

NEPA Elite, which finishes up with one game Sunday morning, defeated GHPA United from Hartford, Conn., 61-48, then handled GoTorey Allstars 2025 from Westchester County, 57-31.

The team, coached by Corey Joyce, will face GoTorey Allstars 2024, the other 2-0 squad in the 14U Division Pool A, in Sunday’s finale.

NEPA Elite overcame a 26-24 halftime deficit to win the opener.

Roman Valvano led the way with 13 points in the opener while Chase Scanlan added 10. Both play at St. Paul’s School in Scranton.

The offense was balanced with Gabe Tanner scoring nine, Kellen Casey eight, Nick Williams six and Will Marion and Mason Fedor five each.

NEPA Elite took control much earlier in the second game, opening a 36-15 halftime lead.
