Kaci Kranson scored 20 points and Carena Colo added 16 Friday night when the NEPA Elite Genco 17U girls team opened play in the Hoop Group’s Spooky Nook Jam Fest with a 63-36 victory over Team Miller HGSL.
Kranson is a junior from Holy Cross. Colo, a senior from North Pocono, also had four assists.
Trinity Johnson scored 12 points and Claire Dougherty added 10. Mia Blume grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds to go along with 4 assists and 4 steals.
Johnson is from Wyoming Valley West, Dougherty from Lake-Lehman and Blume from Dunmore.
The win by the Genco team came after two other NEPA Elite girls teams had lost earlier on the opening night of the three-day event in Manheim Township, Lancaster County.
The NEPA Elite Lewis 17U girls team fell to the Jersey Shore Rebels, 58-45.
Jenna Beach scored a team-high 14 points in the loss.
Anna Scoblick hit a pair of 3-pointers while adding 10 points, grabbing 6 rebounds and making a team-high 2 steals.
Avery McNulty grabbed a team-high seven rebounds while Beach and Rachel McDonald shared the assist lead with three each.
Beach is a senior from North Pocono. Scoblick is an Abington Heights junior, McNulty a Scranton Prep junior and McDonald an Abington Heights senior.
The NEPA Elite 16U team, coached by Morgan Birmelin, lost, 64-46, to Team Miller in a meeting between 2022 Hoop Group Showcase League teams.
The Spooky Nook Jam Fest, the girls event, continues Saturday and Sunday. The NEPA Elite Clark 17U girls will join the three teams that already opened the tournament in representing the AAU program out of Riverfront Sports in Scranton.
The Fall Jam Fest, also a Hoop Group event at Spooky Nook, begins Saturday and concludes Sunday. All five NEPA Elite boys teams are entered.
