The University of Pennsylvania has extended Ciera Toomey an opportunity to play in the Ivy League.
The offer is the fourth from a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I basketball team for the NEPA Elite Clark 17U girls team player.
Toomey already has basketball scholarship offers from Penn State University, Bucknell University and St. John’s University.
Ivy League schools do not offer scholarships specifically for athletics.
The 6-foot-3 sophomore from Dunmore led NEPA Elite’s Hoop Group Showcase League championship team in points, rebounds and blocked shots while making 60 percent of her shots.
At Dunmore, Toomey was named third-team Class 3A all-state by Pennsylvania Sports Writers as a freshman. She averaged 15.7 points while helping the Lady Bucks to Lackawanna League Division 3 and District 2 Class 3A titles in a season where they lost only once, to District 2 Class 4A champion Scranton Prep.
Penn went 10-4 in the league and 20-7 overall during the 2019-20 season and will not be playing in the 2020-21 season after the Ivy League canceled the season in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
