Ciera Toomey received her ninth National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I offer Wednesday, the night before she finally gets to begin her sophomore season at Dunmore.
Ivy League member Columbia University is the latest to make an offer to the 6-foot-3 Toomey.
The NEPA Elite Clark 17U girls team player has received seven scholarship offers from Division I programs. She has also been offered roster spots by two programs in the Ivy League, which does not allow its teams to issue scholarships specifically for athletics.
The University of Pennsylvania is the other Ivy League school to extend an offer to Toomey.
Penn State, Bucknell, Villanova, St. John’s, Rider, Boston College and Ohio State have made scholarship offers.
Toomey was the leading scorer, rebounder and shot blocker, along with being the most accurate shooter, this summer and fall for the Scranton-based NEPA Elite AAU team that won the Hoop Group Showcase League in its first season. She averaged 15.7 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocked shots and 3 steals as a freshman at Dunmore where she was a third-team, Class 3A all-state selection.
Columbia went 8-6 in the Ivy League and 17-10 overall in the 2019-20 season. Ivy League teams are not participating in sports this winter.
