What: Point Guard/Post Player Camp
When: Saturday, September 30th from 3:00-6:00PM AND Saturday, November 11th from 3:00-6:00PM.
*Players who sign up for the second camp receive the rate at a discounted price.
Where: Backcourt Hoops
Why: This three hour, non-contact Basketball University Point Guard/Post Player Camp is designed to develop and improve on the different skills required to becoming an effective, overall basketball player. For two of the three hours, players will work intensely with some of the best position specific coaches in Northeast PA. The final hour of the camp is directed toward implementing the instruction from both positions onto the floor in game-like situations.
The Big Man will focus on:
- Making quick, strong post moves
- Screen and Roll/Pop scenarios
- Becoming a better rebounder
The Guards will focus on:
- Ball handling skills with a concentration on speed and purpose
- Getting in a position to score
- Passing into the post and relocation
- Driving and finishing at the rim
- Creating space for a good shot

Coach Kevin Clark
Kevin Clark, native of Scranton, PA, is the Director of Basketball Development at Backcourt Hoops and now the Director of Basketball University. Most recently, he was the Head Coach of nearby Lackawanna College. Prior to Lackawanna, Clark launched his college coaching career at Pace University, a Division II school in New York. While at Pace, he worked under Pat Kennedy, former Head Coach of Florida State University, DePaul University, Towson University and Iona College. Clark played collegiate basketball at St. John’s University in Queens, New York from 2008-2011 under Norm Roberts and Steve Lavin and played his high school basketball at Dunmore.
Coach Lauren Carra
A native of Dunmore, Lauren Carra is entering her third season as head coach at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes, DE. Prior to her coaching career, Carra was a four-year member at the University of Delaware. Playing alongside the 2015 WNBA MVP and 2016 gold medalist Elena DelleDonne, Carra was a part of Delaware’s historic 2012-2013 season, which included a 32-4 record and the school’s first-ever trip to the Sweet 16. She became 23rd player in Blue Hen history to register 1,000 career points and finished 10th all-time with 1,275 career points. She named the team’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2012 and 2013. An All-CAA Second Team selection her senior, Carra was also selected as a Third Team All-CAA member as a sophomore and junior. Carra was a four year starter at her alma mater, Dunmore High School and finished her career ranked second in school history with 2,117 points.
Coach Matt Shaffer
Matt Shaffer has been involved in local basketball for the last 20 years as a player, coach, and official. Matt played on one of Coach Bucci’s first AAU teams, helping the team to the National Championship Tournament in Orlando, Florida. He graduated from Western Wayne High School before continuing his basketball career at Dickinson College. While at Dickinson, Matt scored his 1000th point in his Junior year and shot 82% from the free throw stripe during his Dickinson career. He played for the USA Men’s Team in the 2001 Arafura Games in Australia, winning the gold medal. After college, Matt coached at Marywood University and Lackawanna College before refereeing at the collegiate level. Coach Shaffer worked as the assistant Camp Director at Pocono Invitational Basketball Camps for 4 summers. He also served as the Boys Program Director at Hoop City for 2 years and has coached numerous AAU and youth teams.
