About Coach Cory Callejas

Cory Callejas, a graduate of Valley View High School, played collegiate basketball at Marywood University. Cory went from the last man on Marywood’s roster to a senior starter, shooting 53% from the field and 50% from three point range.

While at Marywood, Cory interned with The Hoop Group, one of the top grassroots basketball programs in the nation. Following his internship, he was hired to work various camps as a coach for the organization, one of them being directed by Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley.

His relentless worth ethic and passion for the game left him wanting to continue his playing career beyond Marywood. He continued his basketball career by playing semi-professional basketball for the DuBois Dream of the Premiere Basketball League. As a member of the Dream, he played with and against high level players from across the country. He also found his passion for working with the youth of the community,  making many appearances at schools throughout the region and working various camps through the Dream. The Dream qualified and competed in The Basketball Tournament that is broadcasted every summer on ESPN. During The Basketball Tournament, Cory had the opportunity to play against Boeheim’s Army, a team led by former Syracuse standouts.

Cory left DuBois to come home to work at Backcourt Hoops and play semi-professionally for the Scranton Shamrocks led by NEPA Elite owner Kevin Clark. After his season with the Scranton Shamrock, he went on to play his first FIBA certified professional season in El Salvador representing the city of Cojutepeque. While in El Salvador, doing what he knows best,  he used his passion for the game of basketball to work with the youth of Cojutepeque.

Upon his arrival back in the United States, Cory decided it was time to take the next step and officially begin his coaching career. Growing up playing in leagues against current Misericordia head coach Willie Chandler, he knew where he wanted to go. Callejas joined the coaching staff at Misericordia University where he is currently an assistant. As an assistant at Misericordia, he contributes to individual player development, scouting, and recruiting for the program.
